Following President George Abela’s extraordinary press conference last Saturday at which he claimed he had lost trust in the Secretary of the Presidency, Olaph Terribile, further media investigation is slowly piecing together some bits which have been left unclear over the past weeks.

Central to these inquiries is the position of the President’s Communications Coordinator, former actress Marica Mizzi.

One-and-a-half years down the line, it is still unclear how Ms Mizzi was chosen for her post as no call for applications seems to have been made. Ms Mizzi had previously been World Animal Conscience director but this does not seem to have been her credentials for the post.

Insiders say that President Abela was Ms Mizzi’s lawyer in her marriage annulment proceedings.

But, this is where things start to get unusual, not only has Ms Mizzi found a job at San Anton but also her former husband and his partner, it would seem.

Over the past weeks, and particularly last Saturday, questions have been asked about the production company Image 2000 which according to the President has now been engaged as an audiovisual unit by the Community Chest Fund and works on the promotion of CCF events but can also be hired out to the Presidency and the State.

Questioned repeatedly last Saturday, President Abela could not confirm that a call for applications was made but said that Fabian Mizzi and Noel Pace were ‘in the market’. Last Saturday’s press conference was filmed.

Prior to her stint at San Anton, Ms Mizzi’s claim to fame lay in her participation in soap operas Santa Monika, Ipokriti and Il-Madonna tac-Coqqa.
