Football: Shaun Bajada Named the MFA Footballer of Year

Birkirkara FC midfielder Shaun Bajada (photo) was yesterday evening named as the MFA Footballer of the Year for season 2009-2010.He won the honour with 48.3 points followed by Birkirkara’s Trevor Cilia (45.4) and Tarxien Rainbows’ Deni Rocha Dos Santos (45.0).

Bajada, 26, was born in Sannat, Gozo and played for his village club, winning several honours, before making his debut in the local Premier League with Floriana FC in 2000-2001.

Later he played for Marsaxlokk and Msida St Joseph before eventually making the move to Birkirkara FC in the summer of 2007.

He made his debut with Malta on 2 February 2008. In these two years, he made 17 appearances in the national team jersey. He has also played for Malta at all the other levels – Under 21, Under 19, Under 18 and Under 16.

In the matches against Santa Coloma and Zilina, Bajada was one of Birkirkara’s best players.
