Well, hats off to Dr Lynn Zahra who will be taking an equally courageous step towards the legislation of divorce in Malta.

Personally I cannot envisage divorce in my life, but I cannot be such an egoist and not think about some friends I know whose marriage has broken down irreparably. What Dr Zahra is planning to do was expressed unequivocally a few years ago by Dr Giovanni Bonello – then judge in the European Court off Human Rights on a local television station. He had then expressed his surprise at the fact that to date no Maltese citizen had ever challenged in court our government’s lack of divorce legislation. Dr Bonello was indeed ahead of his times and I hope that his learned suggestion would be taken up in about three months’ time!
