The president of the Malta Football Association Dr Joe Mifsud inaugurated the new artificial pitch at Kalkara FC’s football ground. The project was financed by the MFA, UEFA’s Hat-Trick Programme and Kalkara Football Club.
The inauguration was attended by Mr Chris Agius MP, Opposition spokeman for Youths & Sports, Dr Stephen Spiteri, Kalkara’s Mayor Michael Cohen and Council Members, MFA’s vice-presidents Ludovico Micallef and Dr Peter Fenech, the committees of Kalkara FC and Kalkara St Joseph Youth Nursery, players, sponsors and other distinguished guests.
The programme included the raising of a new club’s flag by two children from the youth nursery, speeches and unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the presidents of Kalkara FC and the MFA, blessing of the pitch by Kalkara’s archpriest, the Rev. Anton Galea Scannura, a football match between children from the youth nursery and a reception.
The celebrations will continue in the coming days with a Thanksgiving Mass and a football match between the present team of Kalkara FC and a team composed of players who played for Kalkara Utd FC in the past.
Works on the levelling of the pitch and laying of the artificial turf on a surface measuring 75 metres by 55 metres were completed in two months by 389 Ltd.
Other works completed recently were the installation of a new chain-link fence financed by the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport and upgrading of the floodlights system and other maintenance works through the collaboration of Kalkara Local Council.
