I refer to the article penned by Daphne Caruana Galizia, entitled ‘Tony Zarb Celebrates’ (TMI 20 July).
It has been made boringly obvious that one of Mrs Caruana Galizia’s pet hates is the PL Business Forum (BF), which she mentions in her writings on every imaginable occasion – even when the BF has nothing to do with the subject being discussed. One of Mrs Caruana Galizia’s pet hobbies, on the other hand, is to pepper her articles with misinformation, and /or lies, and/or half truths, hoping that something sticks. In the mentioned article Mrs Caruana Galizia has delighted the readers with both of her pets.
She states the following “There are two of the three drivers of Labour’s Business Forum, one of them in the dock for attempted murder...” with reference to Mr Sandro Chetcuti.
Apart from the fact that it is not clear what the BF has to do with the article in question, Mrs Caruana Galizia and her readers might wish to note that the ‘drivers’ (I am assuming she means the members) of the BF are six not three – John Cassar White, Stephen Muscat, Joe Vella Bonnici, Paul Vella, Emanuel Mallia and myself. None of these persons are in the dock accused of attempted murder as assertively stated by the author.
Earlier on this year, Mrs Caruana Galizia had already written about Sandro Chetcuti as a member of the BF as it were gospel truth. A disclaimer to her statement had been issued by the PL in a press release, dated 12 March 2010, stating that Mr Chetcuti does not have, and never had, any contact whatsoever with the PL’s BF.
I am sure that this small detail has not escaped Mrs Caruana Galizia’s attention, so reiterating this lie in her articles must be serving Mrs Caruana Galizia’s agenda – which is to throw aspersions on the integrity of the members of the BF.
Later on in the article Mrs Caruana Galizia goes on to refer to the BF as a fund raiser. This is also incorrect, as the brief of the BF does not include this function. Either Mrs Caruana Galizia is misinformed, or more likely, is purposely insulting her readers’ intelligence considering them a gullible lot and feeding them false tidbits.
Lies, and half-truths, even if written in a mildly eloquent style, remain such – lies and half truths – and do very little to the credibility of the writer. Mrs Caruana Galizia is constantly trying to undermine the credibility and integrity of the PL’s BF and its members, but she is doing it at the expense of her own.
