Dr Michael Falzon must be joking (‘Society spokesman calls on authorities to support fireworks tradition’, TMID, 7 August).

Perhaps he does not have any relatives who are over 90 years old and live close to the fireworks factory in Lija.

If he did, surely he wouldn’t be suggesting to have these excessive bangs let off close to homes where children and old people live.

Perhaps it would be better to start eliminating all these explosions, once and for all, from our feasts and just leave the coloured ones that don’t explode and shatter our eardrums.

Does he also mean now that government should help in financing these absurd bombs? I will have to start another crusade so that this will not happen.

Or perhaps if he likes it so much, why doesn’t he finance them himself?
