Unforgivable Insult

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 August 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Paul Kokoski’s rant, for lack of a better term (TMID, 9 August) is really way beyond the pale. To describe the governments of liberal countries which confer (not impose) upon their citizens the rights to, if they so desire, not have more children than they can care for (contraception) or shorten horrible suffering (euthanasia), among other things, as no less evil than the nazi and fascist governments that only took away rights and exterminated the disabled, followers of the “wrong” religions, etc., is incredible and an unforgivable insult.

If, as he states, “today the West cries for liberation from the tyranny of modernity being imposed by liberal governments”, all the West has to do is vote them out of office.

Liberalism confers rights unlike dictatorships, be they fascist, communist or religious, which impose restrictions and cannot be voted out of office.

Most of us would rather live under a liberal government but unfortunately there are still a few countries where Paul Kokoski would feel more at home than in Canada. Luckily for him, liberals might suggest but would not impose a move.
