In preparation for the ninth edition of the Qormi Bread Festival, the Pastoral and Liturgical Youth Group (PLYG) has come into agreement with the Education Directorate to visit local summer schools in order to present various projects in light of the Bread Festival. This project was launched last month and 30 schools, including three in Gozo will be benefitting from this experience. The youths participating in this project will then be awarded attendance certificates by the Education Directorate for quality presentation in schools. Stefan Gauci Scicluna, the coordinator of the Qormi Bread Festival said that such visits have been high in demand, and this demonstrates the popularity of the Qormi Bread Festival.

Lessons are being held at all the respective schools. Each lesson is divided in two parts: visual projections about Maltese bread-making and a slide feature about Qormi bakeries. Students are also being encouraged to develop their creativity and their ideas through craft activities. The crafts will then be exhibited during the Qormi Bread Festival. Another popular activity for children is the competition found on the website, www.qormibreadfestival.org, wherein children win various prizes sponsored by major companies in Malta.

The PLYG youths that are participating in this initiative are Analise Mizzi, Andrew Giuliano, Berta Schembri, Gabriella Busuttil, Ian Sammut, Kersten Graham, Maria Stefania Vella, Maria Grech, Martha Mallia Pawley and Matthew Agius.
