No wonder Germany is the foremost economy in the EU – its leaders have clear sight. It is the only EU nation that till now is against the proposed new Directive on equal treatment on the table of the Council of the European Union.

It is not because Germany does not favour equality but because this new directive would disrupt the EU economic, social and moral fibre. For example, if this directive is passed any association, including those set up for an economic purpose, could be accused of discriminatory practices solely on the grounds of the criteria for the choice of associates. Likewise, an entrepreneur could be accused by any opposing party of unfavourable treatment in his or her freely made financial decisions.

The foundation of our free society and economy would be imperilled if European citizens are suddenly called to answer for every decision based on objective criteria they make to pander to the whims of a powerful lobby, which not only aims to short circuit nature’s procreation process, but now also wants to further trip up the EU’s economy when it is going through such a difficult time.
