Now that works are in progress at the Villa Rundle in Victoria, we all hope that no extra building will be constructed except to replace the present one. It is hard to believe it was envisaged to build new stores/rooms on the side of Ninu Cremona Street, Victoria to store the relative agricultural equipment including other equipment in connection with the yearly event of Santa Marija Agricultural Show, when the land of the original stores was passed on to form part of the adjacent building of the Dukes Complex.

All restrictions that exist and imposed by Mepa, and also forming part of the Structural Plan, are applicable to this public garden which is the only green space in the middle of Victoria.

We also hope that the relative trees in this public garden are totally safeguarded and the uprooting of trees, as happened during the reconstruction of the extension between it-Torri ta’ Santa Cecilia and tal-Hniena in Mgarr Road, Xewkija where all the tall trees lining up that stretch of the road, disappeared; when they could easily fit to be behind the new side wall once the road has been narrowed.

I feel that we should keep a more watchful eye on our trees because this is happening very often. We should also appeal to all environmentalists to be around also to raise their voices where it really matters.
