One More point

Malta Independent Sunday, 29 August 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Much has been said about President Emeritus Prof. Guido de Marco.

One point appears to have been overlooked however, one that merits remembrance: the assessment of Prof. de Marco’s work carried out at the World Health Organisation in Geneva when he was Foreign Minister and at the UN, reported in the media by my granduncle Prof. Victor Zammit Tabona, also of WHO.

It was the general opinion that Prof. De Marco “carried a degree of humanity and the faculty of political common sense to the furthest point of which we have accurate knowledge”.

Perhaps our historians would do well to remember this very appreciative opinion of the WHO hierarchy of the time (here reported word for word) when Prof. de Marco spent years fighting poverty and social misery in many parts of the world.
