Air-rifle Shooting: Seasonal record score by William Vella

After being selected by the Maltese Olympic Committee to represent Malta in the 10m Air-Rifle & 50m Prone Rifle events of the Commonwealth Games in India next month, William Vella yesterday powered himself to victory in the air-rifle shooting competition on Sunday.

He participated at the September shoot organised by MARPSC at the MSSF Airgun Shooting ranges to win first place with the season’s best score of 577/600. He also shot a formidable 102.2 in the final that followed for a total score of 679.2 final score.

Lawrence Darmanin was second with a total score of 639.4 and Michael Xuereb followed in third place with a combined final score of 597.8.

Meanwhile in the air-pistol event, Eleanor Bezzina, who will also be accompanying William at the Commonwealth Games, also performed well to win this event with a score of (362 + 97.2) 459.2.

It is to be noted that Eleanor obtained a personal best score in this final. Josette Calleja followed in second place with a combined total score of 410.8 points. Ray Cacciattolo obtained a total of 616.5 in the men’s air-pistol event.
