It’s That time of the year

Malta Independent Thursday, 23 September 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

We have already seen one heavy storm in September and it set me thinking. How long will it be before our patched roads all start to come apart?

It happens every year, a deluge of rain, and we start to see solid blocks of asphalt being torn up and carried down the road. The hot tar and gravel patching also doesn’t seem to fare any better and that all comes up too.

We pay road taxes and we pay other indirect taxes which go towards local councils’ budgets. So when are we going to see a return for our investment? The government said it has a major batch of roads to do up. But how many car axles will be broken and how many punctures will people be getting in the meantime?
