Msida Too good for Maroons

The Msida youngsters were a better outfit than Gzira. They created much more occasions than Gzira and were very methodical in their approach while the Maroons were very slow and erratic in their passing. 

The first two actions were created by Gzira. A well-taken flag kick by Josef Galea created havoc in Msida’s area but the ball was somehow cleared. The same player then served Daniel Galea in the area but Msida keeper Dylan Sammut foiled him with a timely sortie.  

Msida reacted and Spiteri served Jason Attard with a through ball, the latter returned the compliment to Vassallo in the area but he missed the upright with his shot. 

Msida opened the score in the 16th minute when Spiteri served Vassallo in the area and he scored with a low shot.

In an identical move some minutes later, Mercieca partly saved the shot by Vassallo and the ball was cleared. 

The score became 2-0 in the 23rd minute when David Azzopardi served Vassallo with a cross from the right flank and he scored with a low shot from inside the area.

Gzira then created the last two actions before the break. Grixti served Daniel Gaea with a through ball but Andy Pace foiled him with a timely tackle. Dylan Sciberras served Dean Galea with a through ball in the area and Sammut saved his effort in two attempts.

Msida scored a third goal nine minutes after restart when Vassallo served Attard with a through ball on the left flank and his cross-shot completely deceived Mercieca with the ball ending at the back of the net.

The fourth and final goal was scored in the 63rd minute when goalie Cliff Aquilina handled the ball on the left edge of the area and Vassallo scored with a lobbed ball from the free kick.

The last action before the end came from Gzira when Grixti was fouled outside the area and Sammut saved the free kick by Jean P Vella.
