B.OV Third division: Gudja, Siggiewi open account with victories

St Lucia-Gudja U 0-2

The first period proved to be a balanced affair with Gudja going close early on through Trevor Thomas and Leslie Burke.

At the other end the Saints were denied by Matthew Xerxen off a close-range shot by Dino Falzon and an Emanuel Cutajar free-kick.

In the 29th minute Gudja wasted a clear goal scoring opportunity through Aaron Guazzo and just before the end of the first-half the same player had a free-kick which was saved with difficulty by Duane Carabott.

After the change of ends the match remained very balanced with the Saints being denied by Xerxen off a shot by Chris Camilleri.

Gudja opened the score through Aaron Guazzo from a cross by Trevor Thomas with the Saints replying through an effort by Liam Cutajar which finished just wide and they also wasted a clear opportunity through Chris Camilleri.

At the other end Gudja were then denied by Carabott off a strong shot by Trevor Thomas and two minutes from time Gudja sealed the issue when they got their second goal through Trevor Thomas from a well taken direct free-kick.

Siggiewi-Mtarfa 2-1

Siggiewi dictated the run of play throughout the first period and after just six minutes Josef Vassallo hit just wide following a personal effort.

Vassallo was then denied by a fine save by the Mtarfa goalkeeper Duncan Galea and then two attempts by Jason Camilleri ended just wide.

Mtarfa replied through Darik Mohammed Abdilla whose shot was saved with difficulty by the Siggiewi custodian Roderick Vella.

After the change of ends Siggiewi dominated the proceedings and after twice going close early on through Josef Vassallo and Mark Camilleri, they finally managed to take a deserved lead on 61 minutes through an angled shot by Jason Camilleri.

Eight minutes later Siggiewi’s captain Pierre Spiteri made it 2-0 following good work by Jason Camilleri but seven minutes from time Mtarfa reduced the arrears through a penalty given for a foul on Warren Grima with Darik Mohammed Abdilla duly converting from the spot.
