Malta Independent Sunday, 3 October 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 7 years ago

Malta’s David Farrugia was eliminated from the world championships being held in Rome, after suffering three defeats in the second phase of the competition.

Earlier, he had done well in the first phase to qualify for the second.

On Friday he was unlucky to lose against German and French opponents and in the match against the Chinese player, he injured a finger and that also cost him the match as he could not control the balls properly.

Farrugia commented afterwards that he was satisfied with his performances in Rome, considering the lack of facilities on the island. In fact, he thought he would have done much better than finishing among the top 16 in the world, if he had the opportunity of practising much more than he normally does.

He thanked the Maltese Olympic Committee, Full Marks Sporting of Fgura and his coach, Santolo Nunziata Rega, who supported him throughout.
