The majority of the Maltese contingent taking part in the Commonwealth Games, yesterday arrived in Delhi, India, and started settling in their apartments, even if reports reaching our offices indicated that these were adequate though some of them were still unfinished.

Female shooters Rebecca Madyson and Kate Cassar still had to arrive while wrester Abraham Vassallo and official Jesmond Giordemaina, who is also the national wrestling coach, will be leaving Malta today.

The contingent is composed of 13 officials and 22 athletes

Meanwhile it was revealed yesterday that the Maltese Olympic Committee had selected Rebecca Madyson as the flag bearer at today’s Opening Ceremony. It will be the first time that a non-resident Maltese athlete will be performing such a role.

In the last edition in Melbourne, four years ago, Madyson had won a silver medal in trap shooting.

The first Maltese in action in this edition will be the Lawn Bowls and Squash teams who will be performing tomorrow.
