The Maltese Men’s triples team suffered two consecutive defeats yesterday afternoon in matches in connection with Group A.

They went down with the similar scoreline of 2-0 against New Zealand and Australia. The latter two teams were superior and won their matches comfortably.

The Maltese players were Leonard Callus, Michael J. Debono and Joseph Emmanuel Saragozza.

The men’s pairs team fared better as they lost one match narrowly and won another.

In their first match yesterday, Brendan Aquilina and Francis Michael Vella lost the first set 10-7, but then equalised the match by winning the second set 11-7. Despite having a grand total of 18-17 in their favour, the match went into the tie break and with Samoans winning narrowly 2-1 to clinch the match.

Against Namibia, it was a different story altogether as they registered a comfortable 2-0 win. They won the first set 11-4 and the second 8-5 for a grand total of 19-9 in their favour.

Among the Maltese in action today will be shooters William Vella, William Chetcuti and Nathan Lee Xuereb.

Vella will be taking part in the 10m air rifle competition, while Chetcuti and Xuereb will team up in the Double Trap teams competition.
