There was disappointment among the Maltese hopefuls in India and in Malta yesterday as top Double Trap shooter William Chetcuti fared miserably finishing seventh.

The previous day Chetcuti had figured prominently in the Pairs competition, leading everyhone to believe that he could win a medal in yesterday’s singles competition.

But a disastrous first round, where he hit a poor 41 put paid to everyone’s hopes of him finishing on the podium.

Chetcuti rallied to hit two good rounds of 47 and 48, but these were not enough against some top shooters, among them England’s Stevan Walton who scored a Games record score of 143.

Chetcuti finished seventh on 136, also failing to make it to the barrage final, falling short by one clay.

Meanwhile, Nathan Lee Xuereb finished in 14th place from among 20 shooters, hitting 41, 39 and 48 for a grand total of 128.

There was more satisfaction for the Maltese clan in India yesterday as the Lawn Bowls pairs team registered two victories.

They beat Malawi 2-0 (16-4, 10-8) and Guernsey with the same 2-0 scoreline (10-6, 16-6). In the Triples, however, Malta lost 2-0 (4-11 and 6-12) to Namibia
