Mqabba are the first semi finalist of the KO competition after deservedly beating St George’s 1-0 with a Claudio Calleja first half goal, to obtain their fourth consecutive victory and thus qualified with maximum points.

The first half played under pouring rain was more interesting with Mqabba scoring the goal that mattered. The second period was a quite affair with Mqabba always in command.

Mqabba had a better start and had their first attempt at goal on fifteen minutes when Claudio Calleja’s freekick was brilliantly saved by St George’s goalkeeper Thomas Galea.

Two minutes later St George’s had their first shot when Mark Barbara’s effort was saved by Kris Calleja. On 18 minutes Mqabba took the lead. Curmi’s cross was well controlled by James Shead who back heeled towards Claudio Calleja who fired low into the corner of the net.

St George’s tried to crawl back in the game with Gary Inguanez blasting well over the bar. On 28 minutes the Saints had their best chance when Dylan Zarb passed towards Gary Inguanez who was blocked by Kris Calleja’s sortie, and from the rebound Glenn Bonello wasted a good opportunity by placing the ball high.

In the second period Mqabba controlled their opponents with relative ease to notch their fourth consecutive victory and move forward to the semi final stages
