It was a positive day for the Maltese shooters yesterday in the Commonwealth Games being held in New Delhi India.

In the men’s individual Trap event, Maltese shooters Nazzareno Attard and Jason J. Aquilina are in a very good position, both scoring a total of 70 clays from 75 after the first three rounds.

Nazzareno Attard scored 24/25, 24/25 and 22/25 for a total of 70, whilst Jason Aquilina scored 24/25, 24/25 and 22/25 for the same total as Attard.

The Trap competition will continue today with another two rounds of 25 clay each, with the best six shooters entering for the final barrage.

In the ladies’ Trap event, the Maltese shooters had a very good day too, with Kate Cassar missing the barrage after a shootoff.

Cassar hit 24/25, 21/25 and 23/25 for a total of 68/75. With this score she had to go for a shoot off with four other shooters all with the same score. There were three available slots in final barrage.

Unfortunately Kate Cassar was eliminated at this stage and finished in 7th place overall.

The other Maltese competitor Rebecca Madyson was not in a brilliant form hitting 20/25, 23/25 and 22/25 for a total of 65/75.

In other disciplines, the Maltese pairs of the Lawn Bowls had a very positive day beating Wales 2-0 (15-3, 9-6), India 2-0 (9-4, 11-6), and England 2-0 (7-5, 14-3).

Against Jersey, Malta lost the first set 8-12, won the second 8-7, and then won the tie break 6-0.

The Trip;es team beat Niue Islands 2-0 (12-2, 10-7).

In squash doubles, Fiteni and Hindle Deguara beat the duo from Norfolk Islands 11-3, 11-4.

Finally in the long jump competition Rebecca Camilleri finished in 13th place with a 5.95m jump.
