Ramis crushed by Globalair in top clash
Globalair’s assault on the top spot continued in week 10 of the Middlesea Valletta Life National League at the SuperBowl, where they hammered leaders Ramis 8-0 in what was a high scoring match all round. Fina, now third, claimed six points against PharmaVet and there was a cimilar win for fourth placed okmalta.com over Gladiators. Elsewhere, easy full point victories went to Turu’s Knights and Royal Shock, against relegation candidates The Clan and HSBC respectively.
Following their week nine demolition of the season’s early leaders Fina, Globalair were to face current table toppers Ramis in week 10, aiming to firmly stamp their mark on the title race.
Starting the match 10 points behind their opponents, Globalair were soon two up after a convincing 870-789 opening win. The second of the set was the game of the night, as Globalair rolled a fantastic 904 but, incredibly, only winning it by 11 pins as Ramis lost with a great 893 effort.
Game three was another stunner, Globalair clinching it 863-854 for all eight points, putting in the team series of the season with their 2,637 tally (6541 scratch). Neil Sullivan (Globalair), 707, male bowler of the week. Dennis Mercieca (Ramis), 664.
Third placed Fina returned to winning ways after consecutive 8-0 defeats in the previous two weeks, as they beat PharmaVet (eighth) in a 2-6 score line in week ten. Fina were 114 better than PharmaVet in game one, bagging it with a 742-856 score, and then took game two with even greater ease, 751-873 the game score.
The match surely belonged to Fina as the third game rolled off, but PharmaVet were able to rally and claim a consolatory quarter share of the points with an 823-798 win. Sue Abela (Fina), 697, female bowler of the week. Ramon Stafrace (PharmaVet), 584.
The week’s results mean okmalta.com stay in fourth place in spite of their own 2-6 victory against Gladiators this week. It was the recently resurgent Gladiators who were first on the scoreboard, winning the first of the three-set 747-735. Okmalta.com then levelled things by winning game two in style, 717-887, to take a considerable 159 pin cushion into the final game. They won that 783-801 to make sure of the majority win. Ray Falzon Reale (okmalta.com), 625. Jean Marc Galea (Gladiators), 596.
Mid table Turu’s Knights clinched all eight in their confrontation with relegation threatened The Clan, who had to utiliSe a substitute player due to line-up problems.
The Knights showed brilliant consistency over the three game series while The Clan could offer up very little resistance to their opponents’ onslaught. The series progressed: 824-717, 830-715, 833-642 entirely in favour of Turu’s Knights for a very comfortable win. Ryan Grech (Turu’s Knights), 661. Giancarlo Tolu (The Clan), 536.
Fifth placed Royal Shock also claimed all eight points, piling further despair and misery onto troubled bottom side, HSBC. Royal Shock’s form on the night was streets ahead that of the bankers from the get go, as they rolled off with a big 672-860 game one win.
It was quickly 0-4 after the second game finished 718-820, and the 717-766 game three score line sealed the easy full point victory. Joe Cassar (Royal Shock), 626. Sammy Gorg (HSBC), 561.
