Once again there were mixed results for the Maltese athletes in Delhi yesterday.

In Lawn Bowls women’s singles, Carmela Spiteri was defeated by Malaysia’s Ahmad Siti Zalina 5-7, 3-17, but then recovered to beat Scotland’s Claire Johnston on a tie-break after an 11-6, 4-10 draw. Spiteri won the tie break 3-2.

Later she won again on a tie-break this time with a score of 5-0 against Lebogang Mascarenhas of Botswana after a 3-9, 9-2 draw.

In the Men’s Singles, Shaun Parnis lost 2-3 on a tie-break after a 4-10, 10-6 draw against Pita Munokokura of Cook Islands.

In the Squash men’s double competition, Badley Hindle Deguara and Michael Fiteni lost 2-0 against England’s Baker and Selby (7-11 6-11).

In Shooting, Nazzareno Attard and JJ Aquilina could only finish 14th and 26th in the Singles Trap competition.

Yesterday, the second stage of the competition, Attard hit rounds of 23 and 24, while Aquilina failed to keep the first day’s form and hit two rounds of 21 each.

Attard finished with a total score of 117 in 14th place, while Aquilina was 26th with a grand total of 112.

Aaron Heading of England won the gold medal with a score of 147 (after the barrage). Maltese-Australian Adam Vella, representing Australia, scored 144, but only finished fourth and out of the medal zone.
