Football: Birkirkara Sign Scottish goalie Michael Fraser

Malta Independent Tuesday, 12 October 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Champions Birkirkara FC have signed Scottish goalkeeper Michael Fraser as their third goalkeeper this season.

Their latest recruit will be introduced together with the other newcomers this season during a news conference tomorrow afternoon.

Fraser, 26, left a good impression during last Friday’s three-team tournament at Hamrun’s Victor Tedesco Stadium even if the Stripes lost 1-0 against the home side and lost to Tarxien on penalties.

Fraser had played in the Scottish Premier League with Motherwell and Inverness Caledonian Thistle during the last eight years. He played 73 times for Inverness and eight times for Motherwell.

Birkirkara also have former Msida SJ goalie Manwel Bartolo and Brazilian Ezequiel Lovizon among their ranks, but the latter, who is the No. 1, is out of action at least till the end of the year, after fracturing his hand after only three minutes of the club’s first match against Sliema Wanderers last month.

It is not yet known whether coach Paul Zammit intends making use of Fraser for next Friday’s clash against rivals Valletta or hold on to Bartolo who has been impressive in his few outings so far.
