Marsascala-Xghajra T 0-3

Xghajra Tornadoes dictated the run of play throughout the first-half and early on a low shot by Horace Pace was well saved by Marsascala’s keeper Chris Abdilla.

Then a shot by Chris Zammit finished just wide and in the 15th minute they were again very close through a Martin Portelli free-kick.

In the 25th minute Marsascala were denied by Roderick Camilleri off a shot by Quinton Grech but a minute later Xghajra opened the score through Chris Zammit who back-heeled the ball past Abdilla.

In the 32nd minute Xghajra were again close through Chris Zammit with Marsascala responding through a shot by Matthew Gauci which was saved by Camilleri.

Just before the break Xghajra hit the crossbar off a Chris Zammit free-kick.

After the change of ends Xghajra remained the better team with Marsascala creating the first opportunity through Matthew Gauci.

Xghajra had a Chris Zammit header which just missed the target and a point-blank shot by Daniel Axisa which was blocked by Abdilla.

In the 67th minute Xghajra increased their lead through a Cris Zammit free-kick and then late in the match they were again close through Ryan Farrugia and Neil Attard.

Seven minutes from time Xghajra added a third goal through a lob by Horace Pace.

At the end of the match there were protests by some Marsascala players and this led to the referee showing a straight red card to Joseph John Cutajar and Jesmond Scicluna.

Attard-Swieqi U 0-2

Swieqi United dictated the run of play in the initial stages of the match and early on efforts by John Debono and Baldassare Borg were saved with difficulty by the Attard custodian Dunstan Zarb.

In the 22nd minute Zarb was again on hand to stop a Joseph Gatt free-kick with Attard responding on the half-hour as a headed attempt by Kayne Said was saved by Ryan Marmara.

Attard gradually shared the exchanges but it was again Swieqi who went close as Baldassare Borg missed a clear opportunity following good work by Daniel Bianco.

After the change of ends play was very balanced with Attard going close after four minutes through a headed attempt by Darren Galea off a Sandro Calleja corner-kick.

Swieqi were then denied by Dunstan Zarb off a header by Daniel Bianco with Attard hitting the crossbar on 67 minutes through a direct free-kick taken by Clive Lanzon.

Two minutes later Swieqi broke the deadlock through a long-range free-kick taken by Edward Vella and in the 72nd minute Swieqi increased their lead through a low angled shot by their captain John Debono following a personal effort.

Attard’s late reaction produced a strong shot by Darren Galea which just missed the target

Ghaxaq-Kalkara 1-1

Ghaxaq played the better football throughout the first period and early on they were twice close through Louis Falzon.

Kalkara were then denied by Ludvic Fardell off a shot by Michael Zammit with Ghaxaq then twice being denied by Jerome Peplow off efforts by Louis Falzon.

On another occasion Bjorn Dalli shot just wide following a good move by Matthew Axiaq with Kalkara responding through a dangerous attempt by Marvic Grech.

Late in the first-half Ghaxaq wasted a sitter through Matthew Axiaq but in added time Kalkara opened the score through a low shot by Michael Zammit.

After the change of ends play continued to be balanced with Kalkara going close early on through Kevin Tonna.

Ghaxaq replied through a header by Ludvic Camilleri which ended just wide and a free-kick taken by Louis Falzon which was saved by Peplow. The Kalkara keeper then denied Ghaxaq’s striker Bjorn Dalli with Ghaxaq ending up with ten players in the 69th minute when Noel Bilocca was sent off for remarks made to the referee. In the 80th minute Ghaxaq drew level through a low shot by Francois Galea and late in the match they were denied by Peplow off a close-range effort by Bjorn Dalli.

Luqa SA-Gozo 1-3

The Gozitans went close after seven minutes through a shot by Glenn Cefai which was cleared off the goal line and later on they wasted an open goal scoring opportunity through Franco Franchino.

Gradually Luqa shared the exchanges and on 15 minutes they broke the deadlock through a low shot by Lee Baldacchino following a personal effort.

Gozo replied through Glenn Cefai whose shot was well saved by Psaila and on another occasion Hugo Rodrigues shot just high over the bar.

The Gozitans continued to push forward and were denied by Psaila off a headed attempt by Franco Franchino.

After the break the Gozitans dominated the proceedings and were very close through Benneth Njoku and Hugo Rodrigues.

Then Benneth Njoku wasted a clear opportunity but in the 69th minute the Gozitan striker managed to score the equalizing goal from a cross by Rodrigues.

The Gozitans’ sustained pressure paid off four minutes from time as they took the lead through a header by substitute Franklin Grima.

In added time the Gozitans scored a third goal through Hugo Rodrigues.

Kirkop-Marsa 2-0

Kirkop United played the better football during the first-half and after 14 minutes a shot by Orianski Buhagiar was saved by Keith Brincat.

Then a headed attempt by Brian Falzon finished just wide but Kirkop deservedly took the lead on 32 minutes through a close-range shot by Christian Mifsud following a good move by Darren Caruana.

In the 36th minute Marsa were unlucky as a long-range shot by Kevin Scerri hit the post with Kirkop losing an easy opportunity just before the break through Ronald Spina.

Kirkop maintained the initiative throughout the second period and after going close through Albert Busuttil and Chris Farrugia they increased their lead on 56 minutes through Ronald Spina from a cross by Darren Caruana.

Marsa responded through a header by Brian Zammit which finished just wide with Kirkop being denied by Brincat off a shot by Orianski Buhagiar.

Late in the match Kirkop were again close through Christian Mifsud and Conrad Zammit.

Pembroke-Sirens 2-0

Pembroke were close after just a few seconds through Braden Cremona whose shot just missed the target.

In the 9th minute Pembroke opened the score through their captain Carlo Leonardi and the same player in the 15th minute missed a clear opportunity.

Sirens replied on 20 minutes as Giovanni Galea headed just over the bar and three minutes later wasted a sitter through Glenn Gauci.

At the other end Pembroke went close through Jean Claude Borg whose header finished just high over the bar with Sirens going very close through George Falzon.

Five minutes after the restart an error by Sirens’ defender Jonathan Grech led to Pembroke’s second goal scored by Braden Cremona.

Gradually play resulted in the midfield sector with hardly any goal scoring opportunities although on rare occasions Sirens did go close through Giovanni Galea and Gary Grant.
