The Prime Minister is spot on in his belief that the divorce issue should be put to the people in a referendum.

I also agree with the fact that the referendum will not be held in conjunction with a general election. This is an important decision that the people of Malta and Gozo have to take. Being able to take that decision in a serene state of mind, without political pressures is paramount if we want to take the right decision.

It is also positive that the matter will be debated in parliament before a referendum as it will allow people to assess the positions of the political parties on the matter.
