Naxxar L-Mgarr U 3-2

After just five minutes Naxxar had a shot by Darren Falzon which was deflected to a corner-kick and a minute later an attempt by Glenn Magri was well saved by Juergen Muscat.

Mgarr replied through Vosko Martinovic whose shot just missed the target with Naxxar responding through Adrian Fenech whose effort was saved by the Mgarr keeper.

Naxxar opened the score on 12 minutes as a cross by Andrew Catania was headed in by Darren Falzon asfter his first effort had bounced off the crossbar.

Mgarr’s reaction was immediate and seconds later Mgarr made it one-all through Vosco Martinovic.

Mgarr were then again close through Bilocca and Martinovic but they did manage to score in the 33rd minute with Vosko Martinovic taking advantage of a lapse by the Naxxar defence and headed in from close-range. Naxxar’s reaction was well controlled by their opponents.

After the break Naxxar pressed forward for long stretches with Mgarr having to defend their goal.

Early on the Lions were twice close through Glenn Magri and Ande Rocha Da Silva with Mgarr replying through Ives Bilocca whose long-range dipper was saved by Attard.

Then Mgarr could have increased their lead as a cross by James Borg was miskicked infront of goal by his team mate Ismael Cutajar.

Naxxar were unlucky to hit the post through Darren Falzon and on another occasion they were denied by Muscat off an Andre Rocha Da Silva free-kick.

In the 81st minute Naxxar were again close through Darren Falzon but they deservedly drew level in the 85th minute through a shot by Andre Rocha Da Silva following a good move by Glenn Magri.

Just before the final whistle Magri headed just wide for Naxxar with Chris Abela going close for Mgarr.

Three minutes into injury-time Glenn Magri got the winning goal for Naxxar Lions with a shot from almost mid pitch.

Mellieha SC-Gzira U 2-0

After just eight minutes Gzira were denied by Simon Gauci off a shot by Roberto Brincat with Mellieha then missing a clear opportunity through veteran Philip Camilleri.

In another Mellieha attack in the 18th minute a through-pass by Mark Vella allowed Joseph Vella with an open chance but the latter shot just wide.

Gzira were close through Yanis Tonna whose volley was blocked by Gauci and later on Keith Bonello headed just wide.

Gzira were now playing the better football and were unlucky in the 31st minute as the crossbar denied Andrew Scerri. Just before the break Gzira were denied a certain goal by Gauci off a strong shot by Roberto Brincat.

After the change of ends both sets of defenders continued to dominate the proceedings.

After just two minutes Gzira went close through Andrew Scerri and then Keith Bonello headed just over the bar.

In the 55th minute Mellieha broke the deadlock through a close-range shot by Daniel Cremona and five minutes later their substitute Fabiano Bassi all alone shot high over the bar.

Mellieha were then again close through Rosen Filipov with Gzira being denied by Gauci off a conclusion by Andrew Scerri.

Two minutes from time Gzira wasted a clear opportunity through Josef Felice and three minutes into added time Fabiano Bassi scored from the penalty spot, a penalty given for a foul on the same Mellieha striker.

San Gwann-Zejtun C 1-1

After just nine minutes the Corinthians were close as a shot by Jesmar Abela was saved by Justin Spiteri.

In the 14th minute San Gwann were very close as a square pass by Neil Goodlip was taken up by Shaun Vella who, all alone in front of goal, was denied by Ranier Farrugia.

Six minutes later Shaun Vella once again tried his luck but his low shot was again saved by the Zejtun custodian with Zejtun responding through Charlo Magro who headed just high over the bar.

Then the Saints’ keeper saved off a point-blank shot by Amadeo Mercieca and in the 27th minute a header by Kenneth Abela just missed the target.

In the 39th minute Zejtun hit the post off a Charlo Magro free-kick and a minute later San Gwann went close through Neil Goodlip.

After the break the match continued to be quite keen and in the 52nd minute Zejtun were denied by Justin Spiteri off a shot by Adrian Carabott.

They were then again close through Edward Azzopardi but in the 55th minute an indecision by Zejtun’s defender Karl Vassallo allowed Shaun Vella to score with a close range shot.

San Gwann again went close through Shaun Vella and Neil Goodlip and in the 74th minute Saints’ defender Miguel Francica was shown a second yellow card and was sent off. Zejtun reacted and were rewarded for their efforts five minutes from time as a short free-kick taken by Charlo Magro was finished off by Edward Azzopardi.

Zurrieq-Senglea Ath 0-2

Early on Senglea were close through Ricardo Severino whose close-range shot was saved by Julian Azzopardi.

Then Zurrieq were close through a Jeffrey Camilleri free-kick with Senglea then being denied by Azzopardi on two occasions off efforts by Aduan Cakiqi and Ricardo Severino.

Senglea sustained the pressure and again created danger through Robert Adami but they managed to break the deadlock on 40 minutes as a cross by Alan Spiteri was headed in by Timmy Thomas.

Just three minutes after the restart Senglea made it 2-0 as a cross by Ricardo Severino was headed in by Timmy Thomas.

In the 53rd minute the Zurrieq custodian blocked off a point-blank shot by Thomas following a personal effort with Zurrieq responding through Josef Briffa who shot just high over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

In the 63rd minute Zurrieq’s striker Daniel Zammit was fould in the penalty area by Senglea’s defender Brady Zerafa with the referee awarding a penalty to Zurrieq which was taken by Klinsman Grech and saved by George Attard.

In the 76t minute Zurrieq were reduced to ten players as Joseph Lia was sent off for unwarranted remarks

Rabat A-Zebbug R 2-0

Early on Zebbug were close through George Saliba whose overlaop on the right flank ended with a shot which finished just wide.

Then they created danger through a Haruna Doda personal effort and on 29 minutes a Gordon Mallia was blocked by the Rabat defenders.

Rabat reacted and four minutes later a shot by Joseph Caruana was saved by Jonathan Vella and in the 36th minute a conclusion by Adam Smeir was blocked.

Just before the end of the first-half Rabat were again close as an attempt by Justin Felice was well saved by Vella.

After the resumption Zebbug started on a better note and after just two minutes a Haruna Doda free-kick was saved by Ivan Cassar.

In the 51st minute Cassar wasa again on hand to stop a cstrong free-kick taken by Clint Caruana with Rabat gradually coming strongly back and in the 66th minute they broke the deadlock as a cross by Chris Muscat was finished off by Justin Felice with a spectacular overhead kick.

Rabat were again close through Chris Schembri but in the 70th minute Rabat made it 2-0 with David Azzopardi finding Adam Smeir on the right flank and the latter crossed low for the onrushing Justin Felice who shot in past Vella.

Zebbug were close through Omar Rababah and a minute from time Rabat hit the post off a shot by Justin Felice from a cross by Ada Smeir.

Birzebbuga SP-St Patrick 1-0

Birzebbuga dictated the run of play early on and after ten minutes a Darren Grech free-kick was blocked.

Four minutes later Mark Ellul’s angled shot finished just wide with St Patrick coming back through Clint Farrugia whose conclusion was saved by Mansueto.

In the 24th minute Birzebbuga had a Carlos Camenzuli free-kick which was deflected to a corner-kick and in the 35th minute Ronnie Celeste hit just high over the bar.

St Patrick went close on two occasions through Alex Ellul and Anthony Portelli with Birzebbuga taking the lead in the 42nd minute through a penalty given for a foul by Glenn Saliba on Silvan Privitelli and duly converted by Ronnie Celeste.

After the break Birzebbuga continued to create the better opportunities and early on they were twice very close through Carlos Camenzuli and Ronnie Celeste.

On the hour the Birzebbuga striker Ronnie Celeste was denied by the St Patrick keeper with St Patrick responding through Alex Ellul whose shot was well savede by Gabriel Mansueto.

In the 71st minute Birzebbuga wasted a clear opportunity through Carlos Camenzuli following good work by Ronnie Celeste. St Patrick increased the pressure in the final stages and were very close through Randall Cassar and Clint Farrugia.
