In the first match played last Sunday Floriana Young Stars beat Sliema Hotsticks one nil to secure a semi final berth.

On the whole we witnessed a drab match with goalmouth action few and far between.

Sliema could have forged ahead on the 11th minute when Dalli fumbled a good chance with only the goalkeeper to beat. On the 22nd Floriana’s Mark Camilleri saw his powerful drag flick from a short Corner action well saved by Cole.

On the 33rd, Sliema were awarded a penalty stroke: however, Dylan Lentini’s soft flick was ably saved by Abdilla.

Nine minutes inside the second half Lentini’s hit at goal was cleared off the goal line by Mark Camilleri and on the 44th minute, against all expectations, Floriana scored what proved to be the winner. A blunder by Sliema’s goalkeeper allowed Clive Williams to plant the ball into an empty goal.

Having already won the first leg Floriana just controlled the match till the end.

In the second match of the day Qormi H.C. beat White Hart H.C. four nil, to secure first place in group A.

White Hart opened well and by the fourth minute Tua missed a scoring chance when well positioned. The same player forced his way through the Qormi defence only for Paul Torpiano to miss his inviting cross with the goal at his mercy.

On the 18th minute, Qormi took the lead. A defensive error by Simon Agius allowed Keith Calleja to advance towards goal to beat Vassallo Agius in goal. A minute later Qormi doubled. Again carelessness was White Hart’s downfall. A quickly taken free hit from the dotted line by Steve Tanti to John Borg who had no difficulty in placing the ball in the corner of the net.

After the resumption White Hart again pressed forward winning a series of short corners which were all dealt with by the Qormi defence.

After this initial flurry by White Hart the game became restricted to midfield with Qormi being more dangerous on the counter attack. On the 62nd minute, Qormi scored a good goal through Steve Tanti after exchanging passes with Keith Calleja.

Two minutes later Keith Calleja got his second goal when he beat Vassallo Agius with a neat flick to the far corner.
