It is now official that the St Paul’s Bay council has applied to move its offices to the Veccia Hill area, which is the quietest part of the village, but further away from the core of the people who they were elected to serve in the first place and especially further away from those who live in Bugibba and Qawra. Mind you, if they move a bit further up and their move to Veccia is an economic measure, they might as well join up with Mellieha Council, as the proposed site is closer to Mellieha than it is to Qawra.

The question must be, is this move necessary because they hope they will have fewer interruptions, or is it in preparation to eventually give Qawra and Bugibba their own district council? The move has been kept under wraps and the Mepa change of use notice has been removed as soon as it was put up, perhaps by someone with vested interests!

While all other council offices in Malta and Gozo are situated in the heart of their town and village, St Paul’s Bay council decided to move away from the people it was elected to serve and if the public is given to understand that there are no suitable premises in the ‘deserted’ Bugibba area, which is in ‘the core’ of this district, then someone should have done their homework better. Again, if the reason given is really one of economics, then this move, along with the infamous Sirens toilets issue, can only be the biggest form of false economy known to the people they were elected to serve!
