I appreciate that the authorities did all they could to try and get traffic moving yesterday, but if it ever needed to be made any clearer, our road network is an absolute joke.

There are no alternative routes; hardly any of our roads have a camber to them, that will allow for drainage at the side of the road; potholes become craters; whole sections of road surface came undone… it’s worse than a third world country.

I understand that it was a very heavy downpour, more like a monsoon than a storm, but if we ever needed proof that there is a dire need to get it all sorted out, it was the events of Sunday night.

I would also like to thank the CPD, the army and the police for all their hard work and the risks they took to ensure people’s safety.
