Attard played the better football throughout the first period but St Venera created the first opportunities through Jeffrey Zammit. I

n the 13th minute Attard took the lead through a close-range shot by Kayne Said with St Venera then wasting a clear opportunity through Dalton Wingfield.

In the 20th minute Attard made it 2-0 with Marco Sultana heading in from a Darren Galea corner-kick.

On the half-hour St Venera reduced the arrears when they were given a penalty for a foul by Jean Claude Cachia on Andrew Hili. Jeffrey Zammit duly converted from the spot.

The Lightnings sustained their reaction and were close as a shot by Jeffrey Zammit was well saved by Zarb.

After the change of ends St Venera pressed forward but they were rather ineffective in front of goal.

Early on Attard were close through Kurt Zahra and Darren Galea. St Venera then went close through Rudi Carbonaro and on another occasion a shot by Dylan Mercieca was saved by Dunstan Zarb.

Attard responded through attempts by Kurt Zahra and Kayne Said which were well saved by Spiteri and four minutes from time St Venera were reduced to 10 players as Stefan Farrugia was sent off for a second caution.

Qrendi-St Lucia 1-2

The Saints were close after just four minutes through Adrian Dominicus whose shot was well saved by Neville Ciantar.

Qrendi had a Johan Scicluna free-kick which just missed the target and in the 25th minute they were again close through Joe Bugeja.

In the 36th minute the Saints were denied by Ciantar off an attempt by Adrian Dominicus but four minutes before the break they took a deserved lead through a close-range shot by Chris Camilleri.

Four minutes after the restart, Qrendi were denied by Carabott off a Johan Scicluna free-kick and the Qrendi keeper was again on hand on the hour to stop a point-blank header by Adrian Muscat.

A minute later the Saints made it 2-0 as Adrian Dominicus finished off a good move by Brian Chetcuti.

Dominicus was then denied a second goal as his shot was cleared off the goal line with Qrendi replying through a long-range effort by Davide Mula which was saved by Carabott.

Six minutes from time Qrendi reduced the arrears through an angled shot by their captain Joseph Bugeja.

Siggiewi-Mdina K 3-0

Siggiewi did the attacking throughout the first-half and after ten minutes Roderick Farrugia hit just high over the bar following a personal effort.

Then they wasted a clear opportunity through Josef Vassallo with Mdina responding through Trevor Fenech which just missed the target.

Siggiewi increased the pressure and on the half-hour they opened the score through their talented striker Jason Camilleri who managed to beat Sciberras with an angled shot.

In the 38th minute Jason Camilleri headed just wide from a cross by Kim Buhagiar and at the other end Mdina were denied by Vella off a conclusion by Robert Southward. Just before the break Siggiewi were close as a rising shot by Mark Camilleri ended just wide of the far post.

After the resumption Siggiewi remained the better team and after going close through Roderick Farrugia, they managed to increase their lead on 56 minutes through Jason Camilleri who took advantage from an indecision by the Mdina defence.

Then Jason Camilleri missed a clear opportunity with Mdina failing to make a reaction until the final whistle. This is Siggiewi’s fourth win from as many matches as they are sole leaders in their Section.

Gudja-Xghajra T. 2-0

After just seven minutes Gudja were very close as an angled shot by Elton Bugeja ended just wide with Xghajra responding through Chris Zammit whose strong shot was saved with difficulty by the Gudja keeper Matthew Xerxen.

In the 12th minute Xghajra’s striker Neil Attard headed just wide from close-range and at the other end the Xghajra custodian did well to save a dangerous attempt by Peter Paul Sammut.

In the 28th minute Xghajra were again very close through Chris Zammit who shot just wide with the Gudja goalkeeper out of his goal and just before the break the Gudja keeper brought off a difficult save off a Chris Zammit direct free-kick.

Gudja were denied by Camilleri off a free-kick taken by Aaron Guazzo.

After the change of ends Gudja played the better football but it was Xghajra who created the first opportunity through a Martin Portelli free-kick which just missed the target.

Then Gudja went close through Elvin Gauci and Aaron Guazzo and in the 69th minute a point-blank effort by Peter Paul Sammut was blocked by Camilleri.

A minute later Gudja were unlucky as an attempt by Aaron Guazzo was cleared off the goal line and in the 72nd minute an incident led to Xghajra’s striker Chris Zammit being sent off.

In the 89th minute Gudja broke the deadlock as Elton Bugeja headed in past Camilleri and in added time Gudja scored a second goal with Aaron Guazzo converting a penalty given for a foul on Peter Paul Sammut.

In this incident Xghajra’s defender Christian Magro was sent off leaving Xghajra with nine players.

Gharghur-Kirkop U 2-1

The first-half was a balanced affair with Kirkop losing a clear opportunity through Ronald Spina from a Kevin Farrugia free-kick.

Then the Gharghur keeper brought off fine saves to deny Christian Mifsud and Darren Caruana with Gharghur having a Malcolm Tirchett free-kick which was deflected to a corner-kick. In the 30th minute Kirkop’s striker Ronald Spina hit high when well placed.

Seven minutes later they took the lead as a corner taken by Darren Caruana was headed on by Ronald Spina for Christian Mifsud to head home past Mercieca.

Just before the break Gharghur were denied by Kevin Formosa off a header by Malcolm Tirchett.

After the change of ends Gharghur dominated the proceedings and early on they were close through attempts by Chris Vella.

In the 54th minute Gharghur wasted an open goal scoring opportunity through Malcolm Tirchett but seven minutes later they managed to equalise through an Alexander Ribic direct free-kick.

At the other end Kirkop had an angled shot by Josef Attard which just missed the target but four minutes from time Gharghur got the deserved winning goal through a close-range shot by Malcolm Tirchett.

This result means that Gharghur are now sole leaders with maximum points from three matches.

Luqa S-Fgura U 6-2

Fgura United dominated the proceedings during the first period and on 15 minutes they took the lead through an own-goal by Luqa’s defender Colin Gatt from a cross by Jovin Abela.

Luqa were close through Neil Busuttil with Fgura replying through a Clint Ellul free-kick which was saved by Psaila.

In the 23rd minute Luqa equalized through a low shot by Lee Baldacchino with the Fgura keeper being at fault.

Fgura replied through various dangerous attempts including a shot by Daniel Said which was saved by Psaila but in a counter-attack in the 45th minute Luqa took the lead through an angled shot by Lee Baldacchino.

Six minutes after the restart Luqa’s striker Lee Baldacchino notched his hat-trick to make it 3-1 for the Yellows with Fgura wasting a clear goal scoring opportunity through Jeremy Gatt.

Fgura wasted another opportunity through Clint Ellul and then a shot by Nazzareno Abela was saved by Psaila. But on 75 minutes Luqa’s striker Lee Baldacchino scored his fourth goal with Fgura reducing the arrears four minutes later through Nazzareno Abela.

In the 81st minute Lee Baldacchino was once again on the scoring sheet to make it 5-2 and a minute from time Luqa added a sixth and final goal for a 6-2 final scoreline.
