The ASA team has returned from the International Swimming Festival in Aachen, Germany where 18 Short-Course national records were broken.

The team consisted of Neil Agius, Andrea Agius, Mark Sammut, Daniel Galea, Davina Mangion, Nikki Muscat, Talisa Pace and Melinda Sue Micallef under the guidance of national coach Andy Colbourn.

The participation of the national team in this international meet was in preparation for the Dubai FINA World Championships being held in December. The swimmers participating in the world championships are:

Neil Agius, Andrea Agius, Mark Sammut, Daniel Galea, Edward Caruana Dingli, Andrew Chetcuti, Davina Mangion, Nikki Muscat, Talisa Pace and Melinda Sue Micallef.

Andrea Agius set new times in the 50m (00.29.98), 100m (1:06.14) and 200m (2:24.39) breaststroke, and 100 individual medley (00.59.79).

Sammut’s records came in the 50m (00.28.07) and 100m (1:00.52) backstroke.

Neil Agius clocked 00.58.88 in the 100m butterfly.

Pace’s record was achieved in the 50m freestyle (27.34) event while Micallef set new records in the 50m (34.56) and 100m (1:16.13) breaststroke, and 100m individual medley (1:07.87).

Mangion established three new records – in the 100m (1:07.10) 200m (2:24.28) butterfly, and the 200m freestyle event (2:09.21).

Muscat registered four new national marks – 50m butterfly (30.05), 50m (30.90) and 200m (2:24.28) backstroke, and 100m freestyle (59.37).

The ASA Swimming Board will be holding the next Swimming Trials tomorrow afternoon.
