Wreaths were laid at the foot of a monument and Mass was celebrated by the Archpriest of Qala on a Gozo Channel Co. ferry on the 62nd anniversary of one of the worst tragedies at sea in peacetime in Gozo. On 30 October, 1948, 23 persons died at sea while trying to cross on a luzzu in a storm between Malta and Gozo. A monument in the Żewwieqa environs in Mġarr, Gozo, marks the tragedy.
Only four survived the crossing after the luzzu capsized close to Ħondoq ir-Rummien.
