Athleta made back to back victories as they registered their third league win to enhance their placing in the standings.

The Saints put in a reaction in the second period and even went in front at the interval. Athleta then made their mark in the last two sessions.

Athleta were without Giulia Muscat and St Andrews had Moira Caruana and Tamsyn Pace Decesare missing.

It was Athleta with the better start and a 7-2 opening run and a Leanne Sciberras triple. Madeleine De Martino replied for the Saints who were still in arrears after the opening period which resulted in a low score.

The Saints went close in the second session again through De Martino but Sciberras kept Athleta’s nose in front until Josette Calleja gave St Andrews the lead. At the interval the Saints were 20-19 ahead.

After the break Athleta were in control of the game as they put in a 12-2 run by Sciberras and Chanel Galea.

St Andrews had Elaine Cachia for a reply but then they suffered another 3-11 run to fall further behind.

The last session was further proof of Athleta’s dominance as they continued to sweep clear of their opponents who could only react through Calleja as Dorien Jager and Francesca Farrugia made the winners’ final points.
