The Amateur Swimming Association is to have a new president after the resignation of Dr Austin Sammut earlier this week.
It is not net known who his successor will be but all point to former Valletta FC president Joe Caruana Curran, who is now serving as president of the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association. He is also a director of the Maltese Council for Sport.
Sammut did not divulge any reason behind his resignation, but said that he felt that he did not have the full backing of the association’s clubs.
Caruana Curran has already indicated his interest to contest the election, if there is more than one nomination.
In the meantime, an extraordinary general meeting is being held next Monday with the only item on the agenda being a vote of no confidence in the ASA secretary Remy D’Amato.
