Motor-Sport - Anastasi Wins second edition of Mizieb

Malta Independent Sunday, 14 November 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Joshua Anastasi won the sixth round of the 2010 Island Car Club Hill climb championship from start to finish, going on the take top honours last Sunday. He was closely followed by Steve Zammit Cutajar, with Zach Zammit in third place.

Fifty nine contestants made the best of the clement weather to tackle one of Malta’s most technical hills, where the narrow road and varied corner radii make this an exercise in car control and clean driving. First runs saw very little grip, in part due to the heavy wind that was blowing. This saw some of the more powerful cars feathering the throttle up the hill.

Many seconds were gained in the straight past the bridge section where a fast hump in the road combines with a kink, making it a potential race winner for those with the bottle to keep their foot pinned, and an accident in the making for those who don’t have the skills to carry it off.

Notable drivers of the day were Joseph Cutajar who, as always, impressed with his car control, flinging his Escort into the last corner with a vigour that impressed all present and posting a time of 42.736. He was followed closely by Andrew Cassar in his Toyota Celica GT4.
