I suspect that your columnist Daphne Caruana Galizia (Whose side is Labour on, TMID 11 November) suffers from selective memory syndrome.

I do not recollect her making similar comments on issues raised by Nationalist MEP Dr Simon Busuttil which embarrassed the government, the latest being his criticism of the European Commission (and implicitly the Maltese Government) regarding the petition on air quality on which the Nationalist government is in denial.

Neither Mr Grech nor Dr Busuttil, not any of the other MEPs for that matter, are there to make sure that Malta is not “compromised” in any way. They are there to stand up for the ordinary citizen, your columnist no less, whether or not that irritates the Maltese government or shows the government in a bad light. By the same logic of your columnist, all criticism of the government in Malta would be shut down as it might “embarrass Malta”, given that any such criticism is accessible to one and all on the web.
