Luxol Back on level points with the champions

Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 November 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Luxol reached Hibs’ tally once more at the top of the table with a comfortable victory over Loyola. It was a far different scenario for the Violets after their slim win over the Paolites last week and they seemed to take this match too much for granted.

Loyola were more in the picture after the break but this didn’t alter the way the match was going.

Loyola had Kim Borg instead of Petra Montanaro. The Violets recovered Lara Chetcuti with Kay Portelli missing out.

Luxol’s coach Val Drury changed his side midway through the opening session when they were leading 8-3 and the second set of players emulated the first batch as they nearly repeated the same score with Tina De Martino netting two hoops in a row.

In the second quarter there were more changes for the Violets and the points were more evenly shared. Tina De Martino grabbed a triple as Loyola increased their score but fell further behind till the interval on a 15-35 score.

Play was confused after the break and teh scoring fell at both ends. Loyola opened and closed the session with their hoops but in between the Violets had managed to net a 10-0 run as Bev Zammit came on court once more.

In the final period Loyola could share the game though they were still way behind. Luxol did not seem to have any urge to grab more hoops and Loyola had the satisfaction of winning this last session.
