The first-half belonged to Naxxar Lions who dictated the proceedings and after five minutes they were close as an attempt by Darren Falzon was saved by George Attard.

They were then again very close through an Andre Rocha Da Silva dangerous free-kick but in the 9th minute Naxxar broke the deadlock through Darren Falzon who unleashed a beautiful volley which rocketed past the Senglea keeper.

Three minutes later Senglea were denied by Kevin Agius off a headed attempt by Robert Adami but in the 16th minute the Lions increased their lead as Victor Bellia shot was blocked by the Senglea defence which however failed to clear the ball and in came Gilbert Camilleri who managed to beat Attard with a strong shot.

Then Andre Rocha Da Silva shot just wide and in the 24th minute Senglea were denied by Kevin Agius off a shot by Robert Adami.

Naxxar replied through two shots by Darren Falzon and Chris Pace which were saved with difficulty by Attard but on 33 minutes Senglea reduced the arrears with Robert Adami heading in from a Stephen Calleja corner-kick.

In the 44th minute Naxxar were again close through Chris Pace.

After the resumption Senglea sustained their reaction and in the 50th minute a shot by Advan Cakiqi was saved by Agius. Seven minutes later the Naxxar keeper saved on the goal line to deny the same Senglea striker but on the hour Naxxar made it 3-1 through Darren Falzon from the penalty spot, a penalty given for a foul by Glenn Tanti on Chris Pace.

In the 70th minute Senglea were denied by Kevin Agius off a free-kick by Advan Cakiqi and after further pressure they managed to score in the 87th minute with Ricardo Severino beating Kevin Agius from close-range.

Senglea continued to push but in added time it was Naxxar who went close through Darren Falzon.

San Gwann-Rabat A 1-4

The match proved to be quite balanced throughout the first forty-five minutes with San Gwann creating the first opportunity after six minutes as a shot by Chris Cacciattolo just missed the target.

Then the Rabat custodian Ivan Cassar came out of his goal to deny Gomez Malomini. Cassar was injured and had to be replaced by Jonathan Azzopardi.

At the other end Rabat’s striker Justin Felice headed just over the bar but in the 31st minute Justin Felice managed to give Rabat the lead with a low shot following a personal effort.

In the 34th minute Rabat had a shot by David Azzopardi which was well saved by the Saints’ keeper but three minutes into injury-time the Ajax made it 2-0 as Adam Smeir’s pass was picked up by Justin Felice who managed to beat Francica with a low shot.

Six minutes into the second period Rabat’s striker Justin Felice got his hat-trick following a square pass by David Azzopardi and in the 66th minute Rabat made it 4-0 with Justin Felice getting his fourth personal goal.

The Saints’ reaction produced two dangerous efforts by Chris Cacciattolo and Shaun Vella but in the 80th minute they managed to reduce the arrears through Mauro Busuttil following a personal effort.

Mgarr U-Birzebbuga SP 1-2

Birzebbuga were the better team early on and after just five minutes the Mgarr keeper Jurgen Muscat turned the ball onto the post off a shot by Ronnie Celeste.

Then a shot by Neville Galea was saved by Muscat with Mgarr going close in the 15th minute through Chris Abela who shot just wide.

Mgarr were again close on 2q0 minutes through Ives Bilocca and in the 25th minute the Sainrs were again unlucky as an attempt by Emil Raducu was saved by Muscat with the assistance of the post.

In the 31st minute the Saints had a shot by Paul Camilleri which was saved by Muscat and at the other end Mgarr’s striker Chris Abela headed just wide from a cross by Mario Abela.

In the 42nd minute Mgarr opened the score as Chris Abela was fouled by Clive Formosa with the referee awarding a penalty which was taken and converted by Ives Bilocca.

Five minutes after the restart Birzebbuga managed to equalize through a close-range shot by Carlos Camenzuli with the same player managing to score again in the 63rd minute but the goal was disallowed for an offside position.

In the 64th minute the Saints had a cross by Paul Camilleri and his team mate Ronnie Celeste shot wide infront of an open goal. Mgarr were close through Ives Bilocca with Saints making it 2-1 in the 66th minute through Emil Raducu who shot in past Muscat from close-range.

Mgarr reacted and in the 81st minute Chris Abela missed an open opportunity with the Saints creating two goalscoring opportunities through Carlos Camenzuli, the best player on the field of play

St Patrick-Gzira U 1-1

Early on St Patrick had a shot by Anthony Portelli which just missed the target with Gzira getting an indirect free-kick on 16 minutes which was taken by Roberto Brincat and Gzira’s captain Keith Bonello managed to beat the Saints’ keeper Franklyn Azzopardi with a strong low shot.

Two minutes later Azzopardi saved off a Malcolm Sultana free-kick with the Saints replying through Alex Ellul whose free-kick ended just high over the bar.

In the 38th minute Gzira were close through Alessandro Pirrone with the Saints being denied by Kyle Gerada off a shot by Steve Dimech.

Then a shot by Clint Farrugia was saved by the Gzira keeper and a minute before the break Gerada was again on hand to save off a point-blank effort by David Mamo who had advanced all alone infront of goal.

After the resumption St Patrick made a strong reaction but in the 58th minute Gzira could have increased their lead but Lydon Cilia’s point-blank shot was blocked by Azzopardi.

Then the St Patrick keeper brought off another fine save off a Josef Felice free-kick with the Saints coming back through Gordon Failla whose shot finished just high over the bar.

In the 72nd minute an indecision by the Gzira defence led to the Saints’ equalizing goal scored by Steve Dimech and then they wasted a clear opportunity through David Mamo.

Late in the match Gzira were close through Cedric Sciberras and Alessandro Pirrone.
