The third round of the ASM-New Styles-Poiatti 2010-2011 championships will be held next Sunday at the ASM Racing circuits, Ta Qali. This event will include Autocross, Motocross and Banger Racing, Racing on Sunday starts at noon.

Last events were run under different weather conditions, ranging from the normally wet tracks to more slippery track surfaces due to the continuous light showers which poured down for about 2 hours. Due to these conditions the cleverest drivers showed their abilities by guiding their vehicles over the slippery surfaces, lap after lap. These conditions were also welcomed by the spectators on site.

In the 7 Lap Class ‘A’ Final Christian Galea on his No.2 Fiat Ritmo took the lead from the start pack of six cars and he carefully guided his car on the rather slippery track to the chequered flag. George Muscat on an Alfa Sprint and Emm. Muscat on an Opel Corsa battled together for second and third place respectively.

Class ‘B’ was dominated by Karmel Zammit on his Escort Mk 3 through the seven Laps. Matthew Borg held his second place throughout the race too. But Godwin Martin had to loose a place due to mechanical problems while Keith Borg closed the gap and took third place on his Opel Nova.

The Banger Class had some new entrants too. Philip Delia returned to Banger Racing after a gap of about four years. Yet he proved that he is still good in this sport as he won two of the three race heats of the day. Yet Delia who drives a 2 liter Ford Escort won the Bangers Class by e mere one point over Tony Spiteri on his Cortina (90). Dennis Vassallo won third place of the day.

Many Gozitan riders crowded the Motocross Class ‘B’. This group is ideal for beginners to Motocross. They ride on the same track of the Class ‘A’ riders too but normally, Class B riders use smaller capacity engines which are more suitable for the motocross novices.

Chris Muscat won the 250cc Class ‘A’ Motocross which is run on a 10 minutes + 1 lap basis. Chris was followed by Dimech Steve and Mizzi Darren in third place.

ASM has provided its members with copies of the revised Motocross rules.

Next Saturday, the track at Ta’ Qali will be open from noon to 4pm for training and testing purposes.

The ASM Executive Committee is planning another special day programme in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund. This is going to be held on 19 December and includes races for Autocross, Motocross, Bangers and the Big Car Demolition Derby Race.

ASM has also supplied its members with a revised copy of Competition Rules for the Demolition.
