It has now been said that tourists will pay a higher fare when using public transport (buses). First and foremost, I think that this goes against EU regulations, where all EU citizens have to be given the same treatment. Secondly, this is giving a very bad example to business people. I am sure that many of you remember the criticism of those businesses, namely kiosks, who sell a bottle of water at a price to locals and at a higher price to tourists.

Many used to blame this unethical attitude as the major reason why Malta loses tourists year after year. I always said that we are losing out on tourism due to the neglect of our roads, beaches and many other things. But am I to understand that this practice of charging more to tourists is now legal? Even more than that, are the authorities encouraging these kiosks and businesses to charge more to tourists?
