Three teams from the All Wheel Drive Club have participated in the Winch Trophy Sud (Italia).

The Maltese crews in action for this event were Robert Caruana and John Zammit, Maurice Farrugia and Adrian Bezzina and Kevin Mallia and Neville Ciantar. They placed first, third and fourth respectively.

Robert and John have now achieved an impressive three victories in a row in the major Sicilian extreme offroad events. Robert has built his own highly modified vehicle, which is based on a Range Rover 4.6 litre on Volvo portal axles. This vehicle overcomes the obstacles in an unbelievable manner. This is also due to the very competent driver and his capable navigator John.

The team’s first event overseas was at an event organised by the Cassibile Offroad club and they achieved firstt place.

Later on in May they participated in the Sicilia Trophy at Montalbano and once again they took top honours. One of the prizes for winning this event was free participation to this WTS challenge event that took place on 6 and 7 November 2010.

Naturally the team wanted to return to Montalbano and defend their title. The result was a very close first place with the Italian competitor Stefano Gallone just 59 seconds behind.

This time Robert and John have been awarded free participation to the WTI final round that will take place in Cerveteri, near Rome, on 11 and 12 December. They are also invited to the upcoming Sicilia Trophy Challenge in May to defend their title.

Robert and John intend participating in both these events and will again try their best to achieve another good result for themselves, club and country.

The AWDC Committee is extremely satisfied with such a result, and congratulated all the participants for their excellent performance.
