The youngsters from Birkirkara were the better outfit in this game as they were very fast on the ball and also precise in their passing. They fully deserved the verdict.

Floriana were very slow in their approaches and also lacked co-ordination especially in midfield. Following this game they are in sixth position on 10 points from eight games while Birkirkara are in seventh place on nine points also from eight games. 

After only four minutes Birkirkara were already in the driving seat as Russell Gatt De Raffaele dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and served Kurt Zammit with a cross and he scored with a hard grounder from the edge of the area past a helpless Floriana keeper Rhys Sullivan. 

After this early set-back, the reaction by Floriana was very immediate. Conor Borg served Glenn Tabone on the right flank and Stripes keeper Dylan Galea neutralised the ball from his cross.

Galea then denied Darrell Baldacchino with a diving save and he did likewise minutes later on a shot by Juan Corbolan after a Conor Borg square pass. 

Birkirkara doubled the score before the break. After Gatt De Raffaele missed the upright from outside the area, just before the half time whistle the score became 2-0 in an identical move as the opening goal. 

Floriana tried very hard to get back in the game on the changeover.

Tabone headed over the Stripes’ bar, a Matthew Bajada freekick was deflected to a corner and from another short freekick by Bajada, Luke Micallef had his effort saved by Galea. 

Floriana pulled one back in the 55th minute when Fenech dribbled past the onrushing keeper and placed the ball in an empty net. 

In the 58th minute Birkirkara were denied by the woodwork off a Zammit effort.
