Joe Carabott’s team is the winner of this year Pearl Simpatia Crai team tournament organised at Tennis Club Kordin.

He emerged the winner in a very high contested final against Doriana Portelli’s team who had won the same tournament last year.

Six teams under the captainship of Joe Carabott, Doriana Portelli, Joe Vella, Anthony Coleiro, Lucienne Meli Bellizzi and Esther Muscat competed in a very sportive manner so that finally one of them was to be declared winner.

It was clear from the first two rounds that it was going to be a tough struggle to decide which four teams were to play the semifinal stages.

Lucienne Meli Bellizzi and Esther Muscat teams were finally out of the semifinals. At this stage Doriana Portelli’s team won the first semifinal against Joe Vella’s team while on the other hand Joe Carabott’s team won the other semifinal against Anthony Coleiro’s team.

The way the two successful teams passed the semifinals showed that there would be a very exciting ending to this year’s prestigious tournament.

With the two respective courts full of supporters cheering their own team it showed from the very start that everyone was to assist one of the most interesting finals for the last few years.

Carabott’s win in the Men’s C Category helped him gain an early advantage which was equalised by Portelli’s win in the Men A.

At that point the last match in the Ladies A category was to be decisive. Christine Schembri and Anna Vella Bonnici had a very easy game against Charmaine Mifsud and Juanita Sapiano which helped Joe Carabott’s team to win this year’s tournament.

The presentation of trophies will be held during a dinner at the club’s premises in Corradino on 11 December.
