Martial Arts: Very Positive results at the exams of the Samurai Kobudo Jitsu Association

Malta Independent Monday, 29 November 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Soke Fr Vincent Sciortino, in cooperation with his fellow colleagues Black Belts, last Sunday examined students who did their last exam for this year.

The students were very prepared for this exam, as this was proven in the final results which were very satisfactory. In fact, they all passed and did very well. Although the atmosphere inside the dojo was tedious and anxious, and the students were all very excited, everything worked out well.

The students were examined on the technical moves which they had to practice. The higher belt students also had weapon Katas to be examined on. These are technical moves with weapons, traditionally Japanese, from where the Samurai Kobudo Jitsu originated.

The second part of the exam was questions on the rules of the association and on the knowledge of Japanese words which are used during the training sessions in the dojo.

Apart from these mentioned above there are other requirements which the students have to follow: for example, the students must attend a number of lessons per month and must take part in all competitions and demonstrations organised by the association and other regulations.

Ju-Jitsu is a very disciplinary martial art and Fr Sciortino, as the founder of Ju-Jitsu in Malta, along with his fellow colleagues, make a strong emphasis on discipline. The Senseis are flexible at the level of discipline that they use. This means that the discipline they use with kids is not the same as they use with teenagers and adults.

The students who passed their exam are Jana Beck, Neville Bonaci, Jeremy Vella and Andrei Milovanovic achieved the white belt (11th Kyu), Daniel Bonnici and Pierre Luc Pace achieved the white stripe yellow belt (10th Kyu), Dylan Ellul achieved the half white stripe orange belt (Half 9th Kyu), Glen Vella the white stripe orange belt (9th Kyu), Shaun Borg and Lenny Bruno the half white stripe green (Half 8th Kyu), Michael Borg Brincat the white stripe green belt (8th Kyu), Michael Attard, Isaac Cassar, Sean Fenech, Matthew Seychell and Neil Vella the white stripe blue belt (7th Kyu), Christine Vella the white stripe red belt (6th Kyu) and Danica Tabone the solid purple belt (5th Kyu).
