In a statement issued late yesterday evening the Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) announced that Mr Joe Caruana Curran was unanimously appointed by the ASA Council as the new President of the ASA. He succeeds Dr Austin Sammut `who retired earlier this month from his post as President of the ASA.

The only nomination for Caruana Curran in yesterday’s General Meeting was from the San Giljan Club and it was unanimously approved.

Mr Caruana Curran expressed his satisfaction to be leading the ASA and looked forward to continue raising the profile of the Maltese water polo and swimming with the help and co-operation of the clubs and all involved in this sport.

He called for unity among all clubs and members as well as full co-operation between the clubs and the ASA.

The ASA plans to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting in January next year to appoint a new Association Secretary following the resignation of Remy Damato.

In the meantime, vice-president Joe Agius Ruggier announced that he was resigning from the post, after seven years. Agius Ruggier had still one year left in his term. The next Extraordinary General Meeting will therefore have to elect Agius Ruggier’s successor. The other two ASA vice-presidents are Simon Galea Testaferrata u Mark Galea.
