The Malta Stock Exchange Index made marginal gains for the last session of the week, adding just over a single point, to close at €3,470.976, despite a surge in the share price of GlobalCapital plc. Trading volume was brisk as 74,436 shares exchanged hands across 36 deals.

After opening at its previous closing price, GlobalCapital plc stock shot up by more than 26c3, or 26.4%, to close at €1.260 in four deals for a total of 21,800 shares. There was no news to account for the rise in the stock price.

Shares of GO plc also advanced in the day, adding 1c, or 0.5%, to close at €1.910 on volume of 11,100 shares across three deals.

Closing lower were shares of HSBC Bank Malta plc, which lost 1c, or 0.3%, to end the day at €2.890 as 11,000 shares exchanged hands across six deals.

Also ending the day lower were shares of Malta International Airport plc, which lost a marginal 0c3, or 0.2%, to close at €1.645 on low volume.

Other shares to trade in the day yet failed to register a change in their closing prices were Bank of Valletta plc, Middelsea Insurance plc, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, and International Hotel Investments plc, which closed at €3.700, €1.045, €1.700, and €0.755, respectively, all on relatively low volume.

Late in the day on Thursday, MIDI plc announced that its recent share issue was closed and that the number of applications for its shares had exceeded 44,444,444. They also stated, in a separate announcement on the same day, that an extraordinary meeting of the company was held whereby a resolution was passed to enable companies that are Connected Persons of some of MIDI’s Directors’ to participate in the issue.

Trading in the corporate bond market was moderate as trading of an equivalent of €405,611 nominal across 30 deals took place. The bond registering the largest gain was the 7% FIMBank plc EUR 2012-2019 issue, which gained €1.19, or 1.2%, to close at €102.99 in a single deal of €40,000 nominal.
