Qormi-Rabat 5-0

The first few minutes of this game offered no indication of what was to follow as both teams had a go at each other with neither managing to break the stalemate.

However, that all changed on nine minutes when Jonathan Borg put Qormi ahead with a first-time effort following a cross-pass across the D.

Borg was not finished yet as minutes later he scored a gem of a goal when he unleashed a powerful drive from the top of the D which went in off the crossbar.

Rabat hit back and forced a string of short corners to no avail. Borg then notched his hat-trick in the 33rd minute.

Qormi extended their lead in the 45th minute when Borg completed his poker of goals.

Steve Tanti wrapped up Qormi’s win with a fifth on 49 minutes.

Young Stars-Sliema HS 1-0

An early goal gave Young Stars victory in a hard-fought and entertaining game against Sliema Hotsticks.

The clocked marked 18 minutes when Chris Attard fired the ball home from routine distance after a melee in the D.

The game ebbed and flowed, but although the Hotsticks enjoyed more possession and won more short corners, they were unable to break down the Young Stars’ well-organised defence.

The pattern was the same in the second half with the Hotsticks winning five short corners without forcing a breakthrough.

Hotsticks’ failure to take advantage of eight short corners was their downfall. Despite keeping up the pressure during the last quarter of the match, Sliema failed to turn the tide.
