On Tuesday, at around midday, I was driving through the Regional Road tunnels, when I did a double take.

In the darkness ahead, I was sure I saw a miniature pony pulling a man along – at full gallop – on a sulky. The sulky had no lights – and the rider was just waving traffic past, while at the same time having a crack of the whip to make the tiny pony go faster.

As I overtook (I could not hope to stay behind him as the pony was getting skittish in the dark), I gestured to him as if to say, “What on earth are you thinking?” The reply I got was a middle finger.

My passenger called the Animal Welfare Department to report the matter and they were supposedly going to check out the area to see if they found the person. Not only was it cruel to the pony, but his antics were downright dangerous, reckless and foolish.

One wonders where our wardens are in this day and age.
