Newly-promoted Mosta inflcted the first defeat on Floriana as they were the better outfit during the game by being more precise in their passing and also sharper in their moves.

Floriana took the field without three regulars missing through injury, but this does not justify their inept play which lacked coordination. 

Following this game Floriana are in third position on 14 points from seven games while Mosta are in sixth position on 12 points, also from seven games.

After a balanced first period Mosta enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges after the resumption. Mosta were the first to threaten: from a free kick by Kurt Zammit, Greens keeper Jurgen Borg saved a header by Clayton Borg and after Zammit served the same player on the left flank the ball missed the far post from his cross-shot.

In a Floriana reaction, Andre’ Farrugia was fouled  outside the area and after Lukain Brincat floated a high ball in the area from the free kick Francesco Gusman drove out from inside the area.

Mosta keeper Roberto Vella saved in two attempts a free kick by Lukain Brincat.

Mosta forged ahead in the 34th minute when Borg pounced on a faulty clearance and after entering the area he scored with a strong rising shot.

On the changeover, Borg turned the ball to a corner from a shot by McKay.

Floriana then had shots by Leo Muscat and Abela going over the bar before Vella saved a Claude Farrugia header.

Between the 69th and 76th minutes Mosta scored three more goals. Borg served Aaron Friggieri with a cross from the right and he scored with a low shot from inside the area.

Zammit served McKay with a through ball in the area and scored with a hard grounder and Zammit served Mckay in the area who pounced on a defensive indecision and shot past Borg.

A minute before the end Floriana scored a consolation goal when Muscat was fouled outside the area and Gusman netted with a hard rising shot.
